Dead of Winter:

Photo: A Rough-legged hawk takes flight in Farmington Bay.

Yesterday I volunteered on an all-day raptor count. It was exciting to head outside in the cold bright reflecting sunshine, with friendly company, and count raptors. We counted over 83 raptors by sunset. One might think that in the dead of winter, bird activity would be minimal, but it’s a surprisingly active time of year.

Proves anytime of year is perfect for birding.
